Tutorial Text

  • In this tutorial we will be adding a content item to the site.
  • To begin navigate to the Content >> Content by Section >> New Section >> New Section Items
  • Click the New button in the toolbar to add a content item.
  • Enter a name for your content item. You can also select the section and category if they are not correct.
  • Now we will enter the intro text for our content item. This is the text that will show on the frontpage.
  • On this pane you can control all of the publishing information for this story. You can: set it to show on the frontpage; publish/unpublish it; set the access level; create an alias name for the author; change the creator of the article (helpful if you want people to be able to edit their own items); change the ordering of the item; change the created date; set the date the item should become published; and set a date to end publishing it.
  • We are going to add an image to the story so click the Images tab.
  • Let's add the key.jpg image.
  • After you select the image click >>.
  • Let's change some settings for this image.
  • First select key.jpg
  • Let's set an align value for it.
  • Then we will enter Alt Text so the search engines know what the image is.
  • We will also enter a caption to our image.
  • To apply our change, you will need to click the Apply button.
  • Now that we added an image, we will have to tell Joomla to look for it by calling the mambot.
  • On the Parameters tab you can set a huge number of options for how you want this particular article to look. If you roll your mouse over the "i" symbol next to any selection you can learn more about what that selection does.
  • On the Meta Info tab you can set a description and keywords for your article. This will help with search engine rankings.
  • On the Link to Menu tab you can link your article directly to any of your menus without leaving your content area. Simply select the menu to link it to and the name you want to use.
  • To create the content item click the Save button in the toolbar.
